Development Corporation (MPDC) is offering its first Construction Workforce
Training Program, Madison’s Train 2
Trades. In response to
the ever-changing COVID-19 restrictions, MPDC has created an online platform
for adult learners who are seeking access and opportunity to gain the basic
skills needed for entry-level positions within Boston’s growing construction
industry.
Coupled with OSHA-10 certification, participants will begin
building their professional toolbox with accelerated online training and
certifications necessary to enter the building trades industry. Beginning in April 2021, program participants
will be able to apply their online learning with corresponding in-person
hands-on workshops hosted in/around Greater Boston (COVID-19 restrictions
apply). Our hands-on workshops are
taught by local tradespeople and MWBE contractors who are actively working to
ensure that the Boston Resident Jobs Policy remains relevant today and going
forward: 51% Boston Residents, 40%
People of Color and 12% Women on all local construction projects.
Following the Core Curriculum model designed by National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), participants will gain the basic skills needed to continue education in any craft area he/she chooses. Along with the classes mentioned above, participants will be able to:
- Gain their OSHA-10 and COVID-19 Safety certifications;
- Earn digital badges of completion (Linked In profile);
- Participate in as many hands-on workshops/online classes as they wish;
- Access to Participant Only Job Fairs and Union Information Sessions;
- One-on-one personalized resume assistance;
- Participate in paid Job Shadowing Opportunities;
